Almost Time to Turn the Page…..

Thanks and welcome to all of you who have signed up for this blog in the last few weeks as we are going through such a huge transition. Some of you who follow my personal page on Facebook know that – in the midst of selling the warehouse, selling the business, moving eQuilter to a new warehouse with new owners, packing up my eQuilter office, then loading up my studio to ship to our new home in Washington state – I had a knee injury that really has put me out of commission. I was unable to walk for a week, needed a walker for a couple weeks, and now I am hobbling around with a cane. Bad timing, huh?
Nevertheless we also have been packing up our house of 30 years, and the movers came and loaded up a big truck here 4 days ago. I have had a lot of hired help to go through all of these spaces, to throw away, donate, and pack. The closing on our new house is Monday July 20. Sam and I fly out July 23, and take possession of the house and new studio space the following morning.
Then I will fly back to Denver. Sam, Sophie Quinn and I will fly from Denver to Seattle with our 3 cats. Then I fly home, and the last (one way) trip is with Paul and our 2 dogs on August 3rd.
Our cars are being shipped, Paul has an electrician coming to wire the house for super internet connectivity, and we have new mattresses being delivered the same day the studio movers and the house moving truck come to unload. Total chaos but I do plan to sleep for a week before I dive into serious unpacking.
The new house is about the same size as our current house, but with a water view instead of a mountain view. The detached studio building has a big ground floor open space, and a guest suite upstairs. (Right side of photo below.) My son Sam is skeptical that everything will fit in the new studio space, but after all of the things I had to toss and donate, I am optimistic.
The MOST important thing is to get my 2 Bernina machines up and running. I sold or donated about 8 machines before leaving, and as a Bernina ambassador, I just might be entertaining the possibility of a new machine once I get settled. I brought along my beloved Q20 and B790 and they both shipped with their cabinets, so hopefully I can get a design wall up quickly and start a couple new projects.
All of my recent quilts are out at shows now. I did that on purpose so they would all be basking in the glow of public viewing while I am going through this chaos.
The Soul Stories exhibit (with my wolf-themed “Invisible Borders”) is closing at the New England Quilt Museum today, but I still have “250 Years of American Wilderness” there in the Commemorative American Quilts exhibit through Sept 26.

This weekend I am going through the last boxes of stuff my mother stored from her parents’ house!
It is a lot! But July 23 I will get on a plane and move on to the next chapter, one way or another.
