Getting Settled in Our New Home

Hello! – from the East side of the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State.

We have finally completed all of our trips to bring our household, my studio, the 3 cats and 2 dogs, to our new home in Port Ludlow. We live right on Ludlow Bay, which is about 25 minutes south of Port Townsend where my friend Caryl Bryer Fallert Gentry lives. We are also about 90 minutes from the Seattle Airport. (or with traffic – up to 2 hours during rush hour)

So far in our waterfront home, we’ve seen loads of Blue Herons, Kingfishers, Bald Eagles, and Cormorants. There is an otter den a couple docks down at our neighbor’s shoreline, and we’ve had a couple sea lions hanging out here the last few days. A raccoon waddles across our deck about 11 pm every night, and deer have wandered through the neighborhood. Yesterday was a big thrill because we briefly spotted an Orca in our bay! There is a marina across the bay, and there are all kinds of boats, kayaks, etc. coming and going all the time.

The first night we stayed here, a blue heron landed in the 100 ft tall Cypress next to our deck. We have learned since then that he lives in the tree. At dusk he glides down to our dock, with a squawk.

I am slowly recovering from my knee injury, which kept me from going to the Festival of Quilts in Birmingham UK. I was very sad about not being there with the beautiful Soul Stories gallery, but was excited to know that 4 of my quilts would be in the show.

Perhaps some of you were able to see the Soul Stories gallery, which was next to the SAQA gallery with the Camouflage exhibit.

I think a pair of quilt angels must have hung my 2 of my quilts next to each other, on the outside of these 2 adjacent galleries: (photos by Hollis Chatelain)
